Any chance this can be obtained for use in a topical..either the Loquat leaf extract or Corosolic acid itself? I noticed supplements containing the Loquat and they range from 1-18% Corosolic acid.  Might be something worth trying along with some other ingredients.

RT-PCR analysis of hair growth cycle related cytokines showed loquat leaf extract and corosolic acid up-regulated the mRNA expression levels of FGF-7, VEGF, BMP-2 and down-regulated that of FGF-5 in dermal papilla cells. It suggests that the loquat leaf extract and corosolic acid relates to hair growth by regulation of several growth factors in dermal papilla cells. We show here the molecular regulation of hair growth factors and cytokines by loquat leaf extract and corosolic acid, and describe the possibility for hair growth material

That was taking from here, where more info can be seen: http://www.personalcaremagazine.com/Story.aspx?Story=1911

This from a patent:

Disclosed is a hair cosmetic comprising a substance having an inhibitory effect against testosterone 5&agr;-reductase, an effect of promoting the hair papilla cell growth, an effect of promoting the fibroblast growth factor-7 production, an effect of promoting the vascular endothelial growth factor production or an effect of promoting the bone forming factor-2 production. Also disclosed is a medicated hair tonic, a testosterone 5&agr;-reductase inhibitor, a hair papilla cell growth promoter, a fibroblast growth factor-7 production promoter, a vascular endothelial growth factor production promoter or a bone forming factor-2 production promoter comprising the substance as an active ingredient. The hair cosmetic has corosolic acid blended therein. The medicated hair tonic, testosterone 5&agr;-reductase inhibitor, hair papilla cell growth promoter, fibroblast growth factor-7 production promoter, vascular endothelial growth factor production promoter or bone forming factor-2 production promoter comprises corosolic acid as an active ingredient

This is another example of how Japanese scientists study their own botanicals and then it is hard to get those botanicals on the market outside Japan. Luckily, as with many other ingredients you are likely to find a botanical component in more than one type of herb (not always but many times). Corosolic acid which is a cousin of ursolic acid (which should be handled with caution) is also found in Banaba leaf (Lagerstroemia speciosa) and other varieties of Lagerstroemia, as well as other plants such as the botanical you mentioned. It is easy to find, and like cinnamon, fenugreek, bitter melon, and some other ingredients (some are in our ZormaZor), corosolic acid has an insulin-like effect (in some way). It should not be a problem to formulate it and it is quite available (somewhat on the expensive side, but not prohibitively so). Will it work? Not more than other good ingredients. The study of tissue culture in connection with hairloss is so far more than disappointing. So many good ingredients in tissue culture are not much in real life.

Ok thanks  Wink  Maybe I'll use it in place of something else I was going to have in my next custom topical. Will let you know.
